Start With Outsourcing in Mind

Are you thinking about starting your own business or ditching the grind?

This article will share my personal tips for approaching your first business with the right mindset. If you haven’t read the previous article yet, I recommend checking it out first!

After reading this, you’ll have a clear understanding of the difference between a business and a job.

The Difference Between a Business and a Job

Which do you want to start?

Do you know the difference between a business and a job? Before you start, you should be very clear about that distinction.

The book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” explains it perfectly. This time, I’ll quote the book and then explain the concept.

The core difference is that a job requires you to work for money, with your time directly linked to income, while a business generates income by creating systems or assets that produce cash flow independently of your constant, active labor.

This means that if you start your own “job,” it’s just like being a salaryman again or starting a part-time job.

However if you start your own business, your income isn’t capped by the hours you can work. if you want to own a business, you shouldn’t work for money or exchange your time for money.

How to Get Your Business

Outsourcing your job

So, how do you get your own business? The simple answer is to outsource your tasks.

In my case, I started by reselling second-hand clothes, and of course, I did everything myself at first.

However, I had decided to outsource from the very beginning because “Rich Dad Poor Dad” had taught me the true meaning of a business.

Breaking down your tasks

Once I got used to my first business, I began preparing to outsource my tasks. To do this, I first broke down all the tasks into smaller parts.

Tasks with second-hand clothes:

  • Reserching profitable products
  • Buying clothes(and washing them)
  • Taking photos for product listings
  • Writing product descriptions
  • Deciding on product prices
  • Listing the products
  • Shipping products
  • Managing inventory

I first decided to outsource the photo-taking because it was my least favorite task lol

Creating a Work Manual

Then I created a work manual to outsource the photo-taking task. If you want to create a manual for your own tasks, you can easily do it with Google Slides.

one page in the manual with Google Slides

I created a photo-taking manual that was about 30 pages in total. After it was finished, I looked for a freelancer online who was looking for work.

After finding a freelancer, I sent them the manual and several dozens of second-hand clothes. At first, they were a bit confused, and the photos didn’t turn out well.

We had to go back and forth many times, and I had to revise the manual to make it clearer. But eventually, we got on the same page, and they were able to complete the task with minimal supervision.

This process taught me a key lesson: creating a work manual is not just about writing down instructions; it’s about building a system that can run without you.

Even if you’re a small-business owner, a well-documented process allows you to delegate tasks, save time, and focus on the bigger picture.

Conclusion

The difference between a job and a business is simple: a job exchanges your time for money, while a business creates a system that generates income independently. To build a true business, you must be willing to let go of direct control and learn to outsource.

Your first step should be to break down your business tasks into small, manageable parts. Then, create a detailed work manual for each task so you can delegate them to others.

This process will transform your business from a “job” into a scalable system. Ultimately, your goal should be to build a business that can generate profit whether you’re actively working or not, allowing you to achieve true financial freedom.
